MORE ABOUT NOTES
|
~ The book of Matthew shows Jesus as
the King of the Jews.
~ The wise men sought Him saying,
"Where is He that is born King of the Jews?"
Matthew 2:2
~ Ponttius Pilate delivered Him to be crucified
asked Him,
"Art thou the King of the Jews? Matthew 17:11
~Tracing His genealogy to Abraham (the father
of the Jews) proves He was a Jew.
~Tracing His genealogy to David the King
proves that He was in the line to inherit
the throne of David.
~Matthew's Genealogy through Joseph
(the husband of Mary) gives Jesus
the legal rights to the throne of David,
that is the right to be the King of the Jews.
Joseph's line, however, had a curse on it so
that no one sitting on the throne
from that line would prosper. However,
Jesus was not the son of Joseph
but the son of Mary who also traces her
genealogy to David but through Nathan not
through Solomon as does Joseph's line.
~Old Testament prophets spoke of a coming
King and Kingdom (II Samuel 7).
Isaiah 9:6-7
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon His shoulder:
and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
there shall be no end,
upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom,
to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice
from henceforth even for ever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
