DAUGHTER
 Alma Virgina Dixon-Sanders
 1919-1958

My maternal grandmother and wife of Cecil Steve Sanders of Tracy City, Tennessee.   Alma Virginia Dixon died in Cincinnati Ohio on 27 May 1958 attempting to give birth to her unborn son. Alma had been diagnosed and treated for thyroid cancer.  She had been told by her doctors that she was to weak to give birth, but, she chose to risk her own life in hopes of giving her unborn child a chance at life.  Unfortunately, neither Alma nor her son survived.   My grandmother was only 39 years old.   John 15; Verse 3  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for another [his friends.....]

FATHER
Cecil S. Sanders

1903-1953

My maternal grandfather and husband of Alma Virginia Dixon, Cecil cecil.jpgSteve Sanders died from a massive heart attack on 09 June 1953 in New Orleans LA. He was only 50 years of age. The following statement regarding  Cecil's final journey was shared with this writer by Cecil's first born son Eddie S Sanders in 2004:

" When our dad died in New Orleans they sent us to Virginia on the train and unbeknown to us, in Memphis, Tennessee, they put dads body on the same train that we were on. So, we rode the train the last several hundred miles with his body. The family met us in Abington, Virginia and took us to Jenkins and dad's body to the funeral home close by."

UPDATE 2011:

First born child of Alma and Cecil, Eddie S. Sanders placed this beautiful headstone to honor their memory in the spring of 2011.

My beautiful great grandmother Sallie Mae Taylor was the wife of John E Dixon. As a child, Sallie was nicknamed Zachey after her father Zachariah F Taylor. As an adult Sallie Mae was lovingly referred to as Little Mommie by those closest to her. Little Mommie was a loving and kind woman who is still sadly missed. While visiting with her kinfolk on Christmas Day 1947_ Sallie Mae suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed and died after walking up the steep hill of Mud Town in Jenkins KY (Letcher County). She was only 57 years old.
