[Up]

In 1889 John declared his intention to become a Citizen of the United States.  His Declaration of Intention was in the Third Judicial Court in and for the Territory of Utah on the 16 September 1889.[h]  John’s father, Timothy, had taken his Oath of Citizenship on the 12 September 1882 in the Third Judicial Court in and for the Territory of Utah[i], making John an automatic citizen.  Although John was under the age of 18 he still applied for citizenship.  This was quite common.  It was an honor and privilege to be able to show your citizenship papers, which many carried in their wallets.

Certificate of Citizenship ~ Timothy Olorenshaw 12 September 1882
